On having enough

There is a number at which more money stops changing your life, and almost nobody can tell you what theirs is. Not because it is difficult to work out, but because the question is never asked in a room quiet enough to hear the answer.

We are fluent in the language of more and have almost no vocabulary for enough. Enough sounds like settling, like a smaller life accepted too early. It is closer to the opposite. It is the only position from which a person cannot be moved.
